Woody's World

As we head into Fall and look toward the winter months ahead, we may find ourselves searching for small ways to feel refreshed and renewed as the days get longer. Small changes can make big differences, adding a boost to our confidence and making us feel revived when we look in the mirror.

"One quality piece can be the core of your outfit. A foundation in your style to build up from. Everyone needs a starting point in their wardrobe - I've found the best practice is to start with my HELM."

Building Outward

"When an item gives you confidence every time you put it on, use that as your inspiration. These are the things you should use as the foundation of your look, because their energy will radiate outward."

+ Find a piece that you love and can use as your
versatile building block

+ If the item is bright and colorful, use that as your statement piece and pair neutral tones around it to keep a look from being too busy

+ If it is an earth tone (my Muller Browns for example) pair with other earth tones - sage greens, rusty or wine colored reds, cool grays and warm browns

Layering Up

"Layering pieces can bring a look from acceptable to exceptional. When layered looks are done right, they can help you effortlessly move from one part of your day to the next."

+ Choose layers that transition easily or can be worn on their own if needed (a dress jacket for meeting with an agent over a button down for an approachable look with clients over a casual tee for relaxing with a friend or coworker)

+ Accessories go a long way - handkerchiefs and hats can be great additions to dress up a casual outfit on the fly

+ Throw in a pattern or texture - herringbone with more retrained layers underneath or a plaid as a mid-layer can add detail without effort

Long Term Looks

"Comfort should be an obvious box we check when it comes to our clothing, but oftentimes we sacrifice this important factor for a current trend."

+
Don't fall for a seasonal trend - look for pieces that are tried-and-true classics and not just the look for right now

+ Gravitate towards items with minimal details. The more complex, the more likely it is to go out of style next season when one of those details is no longer fashionable

+ Invest in quality items. Spending more today on a good pair of jeans or a great pair of boots means you'll spend less in the long run when they stay with you through the years
